EIS Weekly Update – 4 June 20

Welcome to your weekly EIS Bulletin!

We appreciate how busy your inbox can become, so EIS will only send out Support & News messages every Thursday.

If there is something critical that our customers need to know immediately, we will of course send a message straightaway –

that way you will know the EIS email needs urgent action.

Below we have summarised what is new this week… if you have any queries, please get in touch!

Dedicated COVID-19 Support Page

The Education Systems Team have pulled together a number of articles and support documents for schools to use when managing issues such as attendance in SIMS.

This page will be updated with any new items relating to the school closures and will keep you informed of any new information notice we issue to support schools at this challenging time.

You will need a KLZ log in to access this as it is on our support portal. Please click here to go to the page  https://support.eisit.uk/info-notice/covid-19-information-for-schools-regarding-sims/

Please watch for updates, on recording attendance in SIMS and the associated SIMS patches, under SIMS Covid-19 on the Support Portal.

SIMS End of Year Procedures (EOYP)

The following documents, now available on the Support Portal, outline the steps that should be followed to enable a successful transition from one Academic Year to another in SIMS.

Warning: You must complete these procedures before the start of the new academic year

Re-release of the SIMS Spring 2020 Upgrade Files – Latest Information

Due to the Coronavirus situation we previously held back the release of the Spring 2020 SIMS and Discover upgrades.  With the wider opening of schools from 1 June, we are planning to release the SIMS and Discover upgrades to all schools on SOLUS3 by noon on Friday 19 June 2020.

Schools Hosted by EIS

EIS hosted schools will also be upgraded over the weekend of 19 to 22 June 2020 therefore EIS hosting will not be available to hosted or KLZ remote apps users from Friday 19 June 17:00 to Monday 22 June 06:00

It is important that any school using KLZ to access their SIMS database remotely via the Internet should upgrade their SIMS system as near as possible to the date that we will be updating our hosted servers otherwise users will not be able to access SIMS remotely. Therefore, if schools do not upgrade SIMS on their server on or around the date below, they will not be able to access SIMS remotely until the school SIMS is at the same version as the KLZ servers.  EIS will be updating this remote connection between 17:00 on Friday 19 June 2020 and 06:00 on Monday 22 June 2020.

Details to follow next week.

FMS Spring 2020 Upgrade

Due to the current situation we have taken the decision not to release the FMS Spring 2020 upgrade to all Schools or upgrade EIS Hosted Schools to this new release until further notice.

As many schools are using VPN and Remote Apps connection to access FMS from home, we don’t want to release the files and upgrade our hosted servers as this may cause any disruption to your remote connections if you are working from home.

However, if your school does want to upgrade FMS during this time, please log a call with the ICT Service Desk requesting that the FMS files are released to your site. Please note; if you use KLZ remote apps and decide to upgrade your FMS database to the Spring release then this remote connection to FMS will not work until EIS upgrade their hosted servers to the same version (as yet we do not have a new planned date for this).

As mentioned above, we do not yet have a planned date for the release of the upgrade. Schools will be contacted with updated communications as and when we can provide them.

Webinar – Assessment Manager Basic Template Building and other Hints/Tips

EIS are hosing this webinar on Wednesday 10 June 20 – 15:00 – 15:30

This webinar will outline the use and creation of Templates and basic Formulae within the Assessment Manager module in SIMS. We will also cover information regarding tips on cloning your assessment templates and how to make use of some of the additional features within a SIMS marksheet, such as the use of filters, editing memberships dates and accessing summary data.

This is applicable to any schools who use Assessment Manager, and even those who are looking at using it for the first time. We would recommend users who attend the webinar have some prior knowledge of how SIMS Assessment Marksheets work and how these are filled in, as we will instead be looking primarily at the building of marksheets/templates, rather than the use of them.

To register for the webinar please click the link below:

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the training.

SIMS User Forum Webinar – Focus on Recording Behaviour in SIMS

Please register for our User Forum with a focus on behaviour being held on Thursday 9 July 20 – 10:00 – 11:00, on the link below:

As we are unable to hold the user forum at a venue as we usually would, we are now going to be holding a number of sessions to go over some of the features and functionality associated with behaviour in SIMS via a webinar. Please join us to see how behaviour can be recorded in SIMS and could save your school money if you are using another piece of software.

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the training and we look forward to welcoming you on the 9 July.

You will be contacted separately if you have previously booked a place for this on CPD Online.
